Over time, the upper lip can lengthen and may begin to cover the upper incisors. The visible pink portion of the lip may appear thinner, the Cupid’s bow becomes less defined, and the distance between the nose and upper lip increases, contributing to an older-looking facial appearance.

A bullhorn lift addresses these changes by shortening the upper lip through a subnasal approach. The incision traces a delicate, “bullhorn-shaped” line along the base of the nose, resulting in minimal visible scarring after healing. During the procedure, excess skin is removed, the lip is precisely elevated both centrally and laterally, and the Cupid’s bow is carefully reshaped for a harmonious and natural look. The unique shape of the lips is preserved, ensuring results that remain true to the individual’s features.

The outcome is a more youthful, balanced appearance, with fuller-looking lips, an elevated vermilion border, and an enhanced smile.

Procedure of a surgical lip lift

INITIAL SURGICAL CONSULTATION

During this appointment, you and your surgeon will discuss your individual needs and expectations in light of your anatomical characteristics. Together, you will determine what expectations are realistic and how we can best plan the Bullhorn Lip Lift plastic surgery procedure for you.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

On the day of the surgery, we will review everything again and mark the incision lines together in front of a mirror. The incision follows the natural contour of the columella and the nostril (the "bullhorn" shape). Excess skin is removed; the soft tissues of the upper lip are lifted evenly and sutured in multiple layers with minimal tension (using microsurgical suturing techniques for optimal healing). If necessary, we will add micro-/nanofat for smooth volume transitions and a sensual lip shape.

AFTER THE SURGERY

You can leave the clinic the same day. Cooling and elevating the affected area will help during the first 48 hours. We usually remove the stitches after 5–7 days. Sunscreen and scar care (according to instructions) will help the scar heal inconspicuously.
