Surgical safety. Functional reconstruction. Natural results.

Skin tumours of the face and neck are among the most common conditions treated in reconstructive facial surgery. Our approach combines oncologic safety with careful tissue preservation and precise, aesthetically focused reconstruction.

Working closely with dermatology, oncology, radiology, and pathology, we ensure every treatment is thorough, medically sound, and tailored to preserve function. Our goal is not only complete tumour removal but also the preservation of facial form, function, and natural expression.

Procedure of a skin tumor operation

CHIRURGISCHE ERSTBERATUNG

During the appointment, we will discuss your needs and expectations and explore how we can realistically align them with your individual facial proportions. We will precisely assess your jawline, lip position, and chin projection to create a harmonious axis between your nose, lips, and chin.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

The operation is performed under general anesthesia via an incision in the oral mucosa. The chin bone is precisely cut, moved forward, downward, or upward into the desired position, and fixed with fine titanium mini-plates.
Permanent implants are not used. The miniplates serve only as temporary stabilization and are usually removed in a minor follow-up procedure after 6–9 months.

AFTER THE SURGERY

Swelling and a slight feeling of tightness in the chin and lip area may occur during the first few days. The oral mucosa is closed with absorbable sutures; these are removed after approximately 10–14 days. A pureed diet is recommended during the first week to support mucosal healing. The final result will be visible after the swelling has completely subsided and the bone has healed.

Outpatient treatment instead of hospital stay

Facial skin tumor surgery doesn't necessarily require hospitalization. At our clinic, we focus on top-level dermatological surgery, which can almost always be performed on an outpatient basis. This means you come to your appointment and can leave the clinic shortly after the procedure.

Especially when treating non-melanoma skin cancers (such as basal cell carcinoma) or performing excisions with a safety margin for malignant melanoma, we use modern techniques that place minimal strain on your circulatory system. Lengthy perioperative management, as is common in hospitals, is usually unnecessary for these minor procedures. You recover best in your familiar surroundings.

Risks and complications: Is the surgery dangerous?

Many patients wonder whether such a procedure is risky. Generally speaking, every operation carries risks, but modern dermatologic surgery in the facial area is very safe. Since we usually work under local anesthesia, the typical risks of general anesthesia are eliminated.

Possible complications such as minor bleeding, swelling, or small hematomas are normal in the facial area and subside quickly. In rare cases, surgical revision may be necessary if wound healing is not optimal. Our goal is always to minimize risk by using techniques such as micrographic surgery (incision margin control) to proceed as gently as possible. This ensures that the tumor is completely removed while preserving the aesthetics of your face.
